Lineas expands strategic Railport footprint with Area 7 in Port of Antwerp

Brussels – 7 October 2026 - Lineas has been awarded the operation of Railport Area 7 in the Port of Antwerp, following Areas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6B in 2025. Operating area 7 further strengthens Lineas’ position at the heart of one of Europe’s most important logistics hubs.

From 1 January 2027, Lineas will thus operate Railport Areas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6B and 7. This marks another important milestone in Lineas’ long-term commitment to the Port of Antwerp and its customers. It reflects the progress made over the past years, with a consistent focus on service, quality and stability, combined with continuous improvement and close communication with customers.

Lineas was selected following a transparent, objective, and independent process overseen by Railport. Various rail carriers were evaluated based on the same commercial and operational criteria. The final decision was made by the shippers involved.

The award of Area 7 is therefore not only a commercial success, but also a recognition of the daily efforts of Lineas teams working across the Port of Antwerp.

“Freight shippers are sending a clear message: we want to work together to build a stronger rail service in the Port of Antwerp. We invite other companies to join us. Every additional freight stream makes the model stronger, more efficient, and more attractive for everyone.” - Nils van Vliet, CEO of Railport

Building a stronger rail ecosystem in Antwerp

Railport’s approach aims to make rail operations within the port more efficient by bundling volumes and operations. For Lineas, the expanded scope creates further opportunities to optimise operations across the different areas, improve reliability and contribute to a stronger and more competitive rail freight ecosystem in the port.

“Adding Area 7 to our operations, provides us with a solid foundation to further build a strategic partnership with Port of Antwerp-Bruges. Over the past years, our teams have worked relentlessly on service, quality and stability while staying very close to our customers. This award is a strong recognition of that progress and of the trust we have built together.”— Erik van Ockenburg, CEO, Lineas

With Areas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6B and now 7 under its operation, Lineas further consolidates its role in connecting terminals and industrial customers in the Port of Antwerp with its Belgian and European rail freight network.

The new Area 7 operations (meaning 7, 8 and 9 on the map) will start on 1 January 2027.
