Lineas continues its impressive turnaround and improves its 2024 results
Brussels, March 3, 2025 - Lineas, Europe’s leading private rail freight operator, presented its results for 2024 to the press recently. Bernard Gustin, Chairman of Lineas, confirmed that Lineas’ transformation plan is delivering according to plans in a very challenging market. These results contribute to rebuild confidence. A Managing Director should also be appointed in the coming months.

As announced, Lineas continues to reduce its losses, ending 2024 at -€13,6m. The company had already halved it 2023 losses compared to the year before, going from -€82m to -€40,3m. Results 2024 confirms this trend. This impressive achievement was possible thanks to 4 main actions Lineas focused on: it has simplified its offering and stopped non-profitable activities, optimised its pricing and margins and improved its customer satisfaction despite a very challenging environment (infrastructure works). Lineas has also has continued to derisk its portfolio and is implementing a cost reduction program. “Our transformation plan initiated in 2022 is delivering according to plans in a very challenging market”, said Bernard Gustin.
In Belgium, Lineas urges the future Federal and the new Regional Governments to address these top priorities: establish a level playing field between rail and road, secure the necessary infrastructure for rail freight developments, promote the multi-modal transport by incentivising road companies to propose multi-modal solutions and eliminate distortion of competition on essential facilities (shunting yards) in Germany, Netherland and France.
An experienced Managing Director will be appointed to ensure the continuity of the transformation plan, reporting Bernard Gustin as Chairman of the Board of Lineas. This Managing Director will be able to count on a strong Executive Leadership Team to continue Lineas’ transformation in 2025 and beyond, as the latest nominations have reinforced Lineas’ management capacity and skills.
