Lineas and Railpool extend their partnership to strengthen the flexibility of rail freight in Europe

Brussels, December 1 - Lineas, Europe’s largest private rail freight operator, and Railpool, one of the leading European players in locomotive leasing and maintenance, announce the extension of their partnership for another six years. Under this renewed agreement, Lineas continues to operate 33 electric locomotives from the Railpool fleet. This enables the company to better respond to the evolving logistics needs of its customers across Europe.

More flexibility and future-oriented opportunities for customers

The logistics market is evolving rapidly, and customers increasingly expect flexibility and reliability. With this contract extension, Lineas continues the leasing of 33 electric locomotives from Railpool, maintaining its current operational strength. The renewed agreement also provides the option to lease additional or new locomotive types in the future, giving Lineas the flexibility to adapt to changing market demands and technological developments.

Our mission is clear: we want to offer our customers the best rail solutions: reliable, competitive, and efficient,” says Alban François, COO of Lineas. “Extending our partnership with Railpool gives us the flexibility we need to respond to market demands.

Through these flexible yet efficient rail operations, Lineas is able to keep the environmental impact per ton-kilometer significantly lower than that of road transport.

A partnership built on performance and reliability

Railpool is a leading partner for rail freight operators. The company continuously invests in modernising and maintaining its locomotives to ensure optimal performance, high availability, and a low environmental footprint.

We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Lineas,” says Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool. “The extension of this contract confirms the strong relationship of trust we have built over the years. Together, we are committed to providing reliable, modern, and sustainable rail solutions that further strengthen the competitiveness of rail transport in Europe.

Working together towards the Modal Shift

Road transport remains responsible for a large share of CO₂ emissions in Europe. By shifting more freight from road to rail, Lineas and Railpool contribute to a more sustainable transport system.

The electric locomotives already make a significant contribution to reducing emissions per tonkilometre compared to road transport.

At the same time, both companies continue to invest in innovation and sustainability, including hybrid technologies, alternative fuels, and efficiency measures aimed at accelerating the transition towards zero-emission rail transport.
