Lineas achieves validation from SBTi for its Science-Based Targets
Lineas, Europe's largest private rail freight operator, is proud to announce that its Science-Based Targets (SBT) have been validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The fact that these targets have received formal recognition marks a significant milestone in the company's commitment to sustainability.
The Science-Based Targets initiative evaluates and validates companies’ greenhouse gas reduction targets to ensure that these targets align – in accordance with the latest scientific findings - with the effort to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
As a result of the validation process, Lineas commits:
- to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.
- to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, and fuel- and energy related activities 25% within the same timeframe*.
- to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from the use of distributed but not sold fossil fuels 42% within the same timeframe.
- that 55% of its suppliers by emissions covering upstream transportation and distribution, will have science-based targets by 2026.
Lineas' commitment to sustainability is not only in line with industry standards but goes above and beyond, setting a precedent for responsible and environmentally conscious freight transport.
Bernard Gustin, CEO of Lineas, expressed his enthusiasm for this success, stating, "At Lineas, sustainability is not just a goal; it is the core of our activities. We are delighted to see our Science-Based Targets validated by the SBTi: it underlines our commitment to making a positive impact on the environment. By considering also the nature of the transported goods in our goals, we are required to take a holistic approach to sustainability in the logistics industry."
Lineas is committed to continuous improvement, in order to drive positive change. The validated SBTi targets underline the company's leadership in sustainable logistics and its contribution to a greener and more sustainable future.
